Emerson's Lifestyle Newborn Session

Emerson was an absolute dream for my first time ever shooting a newborn.  I loved being able to go to the client's home for this session.  Emerson's nursery was adorable.  When I was getting ready for Hazel, I spent a lot of time working on her room so that it was a happy, fun, inviting place to welcome her home and I think it's such a great place to capture those first few days, especially with a room as cute and bright as baby E's!  I loved the shade of blue on the walls, her crib bedding, and especially the black and white animals above the bed.  I'm a sucker for cute farm animals (seriously, I'm the person everyone tags in baby goat photos on facebook) and since both her parents work in agriculture, it seemed especially appropriate.

Maggie and I decided on a lifestyle shoot in their home rather than something more staged.  This may offend some people but I don't really love those super posed newborn sessions in studios and prefer something a lot more natural. I also really tried to focus on the details - little toes, that swirly hair on the top of her head, sweet little ears, the decor in the room - that can slip away from your memory as time passes and you live on coffee and a couple of hours of sleep a night.  :)

I may be a little spoiled because Emerson was very sweet, quiet, and slept a lot. She also has really great style!  I'm so grateful for the opportunity to do this kind of session and I'm hoping for lots more in the future.
