Diane and Kevin | Downtown Paducah, KY maternity session

I have lots of great memories of my hometown's downtown area. I used to take dance lessons there in a pink building across from Italian Village Pizza where the pizza guys knew our order. I ran around with friends in high school on Saturday nights when they closed the area by the river to traffic and bands would play. Fireworks and food and independent films. Now I can add "favorite photo locations" to the list.

Thanks Diane and Kevin with trusting me to make memories of this exciting, scary time in your lives. You will be great parents and I can't wait to meet your little boy!

Our very own silobration | Murray, KY family photography

I love it when my vision comes to life and my clients really get it. These grain silos are no longer in use but are getting more beautiful every day as nature tries to take them back. I've shot photos of Hazel there before but I haven't had a family agree to go out there with me yet even though I've floated it more than once. Enter Tracy, the matriarch of this group of guys, who said "I'm open to anything you think would work well." Thanks for trusting me, Tracy!

Patel family | 6 years old and 6 months old | Downtown Murray KY

The Patel family had some big events going on that the wanted photographed: big sister turned 6 years old and baby brother turned 6 months old.  Not pictured here but included in their gallery were photos with two number 6 mylar balloons that the kids loved.  We started at their home (I always love that because it's so personal and important to the family) and then headed downtown for some more of my "gritty but pretty" family photos.  I'm so grateful for clients who trust me to find them good locations!

Enjoy the photos of this adorable Murray, KY family!

Gritty and pretty | Murray, KY downtown family session

The struggle was so real in trying to narrow down the photos from this session.  Since there were so many cute ones, I decided to separate it out into two blogs.  I'm sure you guys don't mind, right?

I love love the setting for these pictures.  I think they just feel fun, fresh, and cool.  Heidi said "no fields" and my heart burst.

"I do" Re-Do

I can't speak for every photographer, but "so this might sound weird..." is music to my ears when it comes to new ideas for style, location, outfits, etc. One of my life philosophies that carries over into my photography is "why would you want to do the same thing as everyone else?" I could have jumped across the computer and hugged Heidi when I read her email that said she didn't want to take photos in a field because that's what everyone does. In Murray, fields are plentiful and beautiful, but I think it's more fun to try and see the beauty in unexpected places.
