My first maternity session | Murray, KY

I am so delighted with how these turned out!  More maternity sessions ASAP!  Send my info to anyone you know who is pregnant because these might be some of my favorites ever.

This is part one of three for this family: maternity portraits, at-home lifestyle maternity photos with hubby and big brother, and then newborn photos once their bundle of joy arrives.

Hazel and Grandma

This one is very near and dear to my heart.  My mom is an incredibly special person in our lives and I feel so lucky to have her and my dad so closeby.  Many of our friends with kids don't have family who live near Murray - it definitely makes our lives much easier to know that any time we need them, they will show up in less than an hour.  My mom is also a superfan of my photography which I'm grateful for.  It's really nice to have so many people cheering me on and her approval means a lot to me.  (I wish my teenage self could read this blog post because I don't think she would have ever thought she would write those words.)  I was really happy when my mom said she wanted me to take pictures of her and Hazel.  I did refuse to take her money - happy birthday, mom!

Team Taylor's Family Band

Again with Murray being a tiny place: Georgena was David's student approximately 100 years ago.  Now we run in the same mom circle.

During our consultation which turned into a wine and gabfest, I was really inspired by Georgena's stories of creating a family and home where everyone felt like an equal member and part of a team.  They even call themselves "Team Taylor."

DePaul is basically a model

DePaul is one of my favorite study abroad students EVER. I worked closely with him while he was applying to study in Barcelona which was a place he had always dreamed of going. It's helping students like him achieve their goals (and getting to live vicariously through them on their travels) that makes my job in the Education Abroad Office at Murray State so great.

DePaul is now working on his MFA in Reno, Nevada and doing some really incredible things. He has the best personality and smile - I mean, just look at these pictures! So amazingly photogenic. I'm so, so glad he was back in town so we could go out shooting together. He offered to model for me so we worked out a deal where we would take pictures for each other for our own business websites. It was really hard to be on the other side of the camera when he was taking my photos. More about that in another blog post but I definitely learned a lot from this session.

See more of DePaul's work at http://www.depaulvera.com/ and enjoy the photos of this talented young artist.

George's Downtown Smash Cake

At one point I said to George during this shoot "do you know how loved you are?"  George's mom Sarah went to great lengths to make sure that this was literally the cutest thing that's ever happened.  She made that adorable hat with pom poms, his blue and green smash cake, brought balloons and streamers - the works!  I'm so glad she trusted me when I suggested a gritty, urban downtown location because I think it makes a really cool juxtaposition between sweet George's demeanor and the preciousness of everything else going on.  Plus, it's different than what a lot of smash cake sessions look like and I appreciate that!  More downtown gritty shoots please!  I'm trying to make #grittyispretty a thing.
